May 4, Monday, Hong Kong

First thing was a stop at the ticket counter at the nearest subway station to get an all‑day pass.  We then took the subway to another part of town where we walked the streets and wandered through a few markets.  The first stop was Flower Market Road…a long block with mostly flower shops selling fresh cut flowers and some house plants.  Lots of interesting flowers, some old friends and some Mary had never seen before.

Then we went to Fay Yuen Street market and the Ladies market.  These were both a long series of blocks filled with wall to wall stalls selling every conceivable type of merchandise.  There were a lot of stalls selling women’s underwear and bras, many clothing items and tons of souvenirs.

Pottinger Street was fairly short and most of the stalls sold costumes.

By the time we finished that walk it was early afternoon.  We were hot and sweaty and tired and sightseeing had lost its appeal so stopped at a local market for water and little cups of chocolate Hagen Das Ice cream.  Yummy.

Now refreshed we headed to the Sky-100 Building to take the elevator to the top floor for the views.  The top floor was 393 meters (1,289 feet) above see level and floor gave 360° views of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Lantua Island, and the harbor.  It was awesome.

Then we headed back to the hotel to cool off.

Later we took a taxi to the wharf for a dinner cruise around Hong Kong Harbor.  The skyline is beautiful at night with many of the buildings outlined in lights.  There was even a large observation wheel along the waterfront that was colorfully lit.

We even saw a Junk floating around the harbor.

The cruise was timed to allow us to see the laser and light show, largest in the world in that all of the lasers and lights are situated on top of various sky scrapers lining the city.

In addition, some buildings had lights along the sides of the building.  Some of the buildings just had lights that turned on and off in decorative patterns.  One building took it a step further with the lights acting almost like a video screen with video games being played, like Pac Man.

It was a lovely evening on the water.  Not too hot.
